Module 3 · Lesson 19
Wearing three colors marks the shift from dressing to styling.
Objective
Master the two formulas for balancing three colors in one outfit with perfect visual hierarchy.

Stage 1
Wearing three colors marks the shift from dressing to styling. The key is hierarchy: giving each color equal weight creates a costume-like look. Instead, use one of two strict formulas to control their visual balance.

Stage 2
Formula 1 pairs two shades from the same color family with one contrasting color. By grouping similar shades—like light blue and navy—you create a unified, calming visual base. This prevents the outfit from looking fragmented and grounds the overall look.

Stage 3
To introduce your third, contrasting color without breaking harmony, drastically shrink its physical proportion. Keep the boldest color restricted to a small accessory, like a mini-bag or a shoe. This delivers a pop of energy without overwhelming the eye.

Stage 4
Formula 2 pairs two strong, contrasting colors with one solid neutral. If you want to wear loud colors like pink and red together, a neutral piece like beige or grey is mandatory. The neutral acts as a visual buffer, stopping the bright colors from fighting each other.

Stage 5
In this formula, the neutral piece must dominate the physical space of your outfit. Because the beige trousers anchor the look, the hot-pink sweater and red shoes look intentional rather than chaotic. The contrast becomes sophisticated because the eye has a place to rest.

Stage 6
To finalize any three-color outfit, use the "Echo" technique to tie it all together. Repeat your smallest accent color in a second location on your body. Matching a red shoe to a red lip, or a green bag to a green belt, creates instant visual cohesion.

Challenge
Select one of the two formulas you just learned. Go to your closet and build a visually balanced three-color outfit for tomorrow.
